THERMAL NUCLEATION OF 2D POINT VORTICES IN A LAYERED SUPERCONDUCTOR

摘要
An exact solution for the problem of a point vortex near the lateral surface of a layered superconductor is presented in the limiting case of no Josephson coupling between the layers. The surface barrier against penetration of vortices is discussed for a field normal to the layers. Contrary to the usual Bean-Livingston barrier in a 3D superconductor, an energy minimum is found at a distance of order-lambda from the surface, and thermal activation allows vortex penetration at fields only slightly higher than H(c1).
