Alloys of formula near AuMn have an ordered CsCl structure. On cooling through the Néel temperature the originally cubic phase (C) distorts to a tetragonal phase (t1) with c/a < 1 at the onset of anti-ferromagnetic order. Some alloys distort on further cooling to a phase with c/a > 1(t2). In the course of attempts to grow single untwinned crystals of the t1 and t2 phases for magnetic investigation a detailed study of the crystallography of the martensitic transformations C-t1 and t1-t2 has been made using multiple beam interference and X-ray techniques. © 1969.
