INPLANE ANISOTROPY OF INTERFACE-ADSORBED COMPLEX LANGMUIR-BLODGETT FILMS

Interface-adsorbed complex Langmuir-Blodgett films of aracidic acid and a cyanine dye were fabricated using the diffusion-absorption method. Their optical properties were examined employing a linearly polarized incident. The films show a large in-plane anisotropy of the optical density and spectral shape. The origin of the anisotropy is explained plausibly by assuming flow orientation and Davydov splitting. The configuration of the dye molecules was estimated using the extended dipole model.
