HYDROGEN DIFFUSION THROUGH COPPER-PLATED AISI-4140 STEELS

摘要
In order to control the hydrogen embrittlement problems of high strength steels, electrochemical hydrogen permeation experiments were performed on copper-plated AISI 4140 steels to evaluate the beneficial effect of an impermeable coating. Copper plating led to a lower hydrogen permeation rate and effective diffusivity due to its low hydrogen absorption rate. The permeability and effective diffusivity of the copper-plating layer was calculated from permeation data of coated AISI 4140 steels.
