Lipoblastoma is an unusual benign tumor of embryonal fat which occurs most frequently in the first year of life. Its roentgenographic and clinical presentation may be confused with that of myxoid liposarcoma, the most common soft-tissue sarcoma in adults but one that occurs rarely in children. Lipoblastoma can be confused also with a malignant neoplasm because of its histological appearance. The case of a nine mth old boy the authors report is not unusual for the entity, but is presented to alert orthopaedic surgeons to the characteristics of lipoblastoma.
