HoBaCuO high-J//c superconducting single crystalline thin films were first grown on MgO (001) substrates by magnetron sputtering. The films showed sharp resistive transition with T//c(R equals O) equals 84 K. The critical current density J//c was 2. 54 multiplied by 10**6 A/cm**2 at 77. 3 K. Even under the influence of a magnetic field of 1. 0 T, J//c was sustained at more than 1. 5 multiplied by 10**6 A/cm**2 at 77. 3 K. X-ray and electron diffraction analyses showed that the basal planes of the films are parallel to the substrates and that these films are epitaxially grown single crystals.
