摘要
A method of estimating small amounts of the N-oxides of N,N-dimethylalkylamines and saturated N-methylheterocyclicamines is described. These amine oxides are known to react with SO2 in cold aqueous solution to produce an SO2 addition product that is immediately hydrolyzed to yield an aldehyde and a secondary amine. The aldehyde concentration, which can be estimated by a standard colorimetric method, is a function of the original amine oxide concentration. Amine oxides produced during enzymic N-oxidation of the tertiary amines can be quantitatively estimated by this method. The conditions required to extract quantitatively the amine oxide from the enzymic reaction mixture are described. © 1969.
