THE INFLUENCE OF THE TEMPLATE GROWTH METHOD ON THE PROPERTIES OF A-AXIS ORIENTED YBA2CU3O7-DELTA THIN-FILMS

The template growth procedure introduced by Inam et al. [Appl. Phys. Lett. 57 (1990) 2484] allows the deposition of high quality a-axis oriented YBa2Cu3O7-delta thin films with critical temperatures above 80 K to be performed. We have investigated the influence of the template growth method on the properties of a-axis oriented thin films. We show that it effectively removes the disorder present in the oxygen sublattice of films deposited at low temperatures. A comparison with low-temperature grown c-axis orientated YBa2Cu3O7-delta filMS on MgO supports our conclusion that the template growth method does not improve the oxygen content, but the oxygen order.
