摘要
The dynamics of tutorial group discussions are examined using four factors which it is argued reflect dominance within the group. These factors are share of speaking time, share of speaking turns, the proportion of speaker changes which are interruptions, and the number of interruptions made and received. Eight tutorial discussion groups, four male-led and four female-led, were audiotaped. Male students were found to interrupt female students significantly more than female students interrupted them. The effect of status was found to be greater than that of sex: tutors dominated on three of the four factors observed. The sex of tutor was found to influence the number of interruptions made and received by the students. An additional category of interruption was observed. © 1990, Walter de Gruyter.
