摘要
From a stochastic point of view, red blood cell survival can be completely characterized by two functions: one describing the death probability and the other the production rate of cells. These functions yield expressions for measurable quantities, e.g., the total amount of circulating cells, and can therefore be determined by comparison with experimental data. The successful application of direct and indirect computer simulation to this problem is reported together with suitable methods for parameter estimation. In addition to the death probability and the production rate, these methods also yield the corresponding frequency functions for the life span and the age of the cells. The methods are applicable in stationary as well as nontationary conditions. © 1969.
