PERTURBATION WAVE LENGTH MEASUREMENT AT LONGITUDIONAL CURLS IN LAMINAR BOUNDARY LAYERS ALONG CONCAVE WALLS

摘要
If a liquid-filled cylinder, rotating about its axis, is suddenly brought to rest nonstationary Görtler-Taylor curls will appear in the wall boundary layer. These are made visible and their perturbation wave lengths are measured at the first moment of their appearance. It is found that their magnitude depends only on a Reynolds number Rea=ωRa2/v characterizing the state of rotation of the cylinder before stopping. A theoretical estimate of the magnitude of the perturbation wave length agrees well with the results of the measurements. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
