REACTION OF BORONATED GRAPHITE WITH WATER VAPOR

摘要
The reaction of boronated graphite with water vapor occurs by two consecutive reactions in the temperature range 830°-930°, namely B4C + 6H2D → 2B2O3 + C + 6H2 (1) and B2O3 + H2O → 2HBO2 (2) The rate of reaction (1) decreases very rapidly initially with the formation of molten B2O3 on the surface of the sample. The influence of reaction (2) is soon felt, however, and the rate of formation of B2O3 is balanced by its rate of removal as volatile HBO2. During this steady-state condition, the rate of weight loss of the sample and the product H2 concentration remain constant. © 1969.
