Trichoderma reesei (QM 9414) cells were immobilized by adhesion on paper carriers which were covered by copolymers obtained by irradiation of monomers. The relationship between cellulase activity (filter paper activity) or cell growth and the surface property of the carrier was investigated. Conditions for the immobilization of the cells were established by which the cells adhered to and grew on the carriers covered with a copolymer that had relatively low hydrophilicity: the cells showed high filter paper activity.
