ANGULAR-RESOLVED PHOTOEMISSION FROM AN ORDERED OXYGEN OVERLAYER ON ALUMINUM (111)

摘要
The observation of dispersion effects on the oxygen 2p-derived levels in angular-resolved photoemission indicate the presence of an ordered (1 × 1) overlayer on aluminium (111). The energy bands of the system have been mapped out, and their symmetries determined using polarized HeI radiation. The resulting two-dimensional band structure shows that the crystallographic point group of the adlayer is reduced to C3v by the influence of the substrate and the specific adsorption site. The experimental results agree well with a KKR band structure calculation using a simplified model. The layer was found to grow via an island growth mechanism, and to transform irreversibly into a less well ordered structure within 1-2 h. © 1979.
