In relativistic heavy-ion reactions, the density of final-state "strings" (in the FRITIOF model) or "chians" (in Dual Parton Models like VENUS) becomes very large. It is then questionable whether theycan be treated as independent during the fragmentation phase. We present a model for such interacting strings, which conserves all quantum numbers locally and corresponds to a generalization of the well-known Lund String Fragmentation Model.
