INTEGRATION OF REAL-TIME CONTROLS AND COMPUTER-PROGRAMS FOR SIMULATION OF DIRECT-CURRENT TRANSMISSION

Studies of dynamic performance of dc transmission and static var compensators, for example, often involve control modeling in dynamic stability programs, detailed (point-on-wave) control models in EMTP or other transients programs, and real-time control on a physical system simulator. This paper introduces a new concept: actual real-time controls are interfaced with a digital system simulator without relaxation of real-time constraints. The concept, time transposition, synchronizing and software interface aspects are discussed. The approach has implications for enhanced simulation, controller design and on-site controller diagnostics. It applies to various forms of real-time digital control for power systems. © 1990 IEEE
