RECENT ADVANCES IN THE STUDY OF THE D-REGION WINTER ANOMALY

D-region work as concerns the winter anomaly of electron density is screened for the period 1974-78. The following topics are dealt with: electron density distribution; ion production processes; neutral atmosphere effects by trace constituents, temperature and transports; ion composition and chemistry; coupling between atmospheric/ionospheric layers. A summary is given which might be read first, and which leads to some aspects of future work. © 1979.
