摘要
The emissive excited state of ReO2(py)4+ is quenched by protic solvents, although the precise mechanism has remained in question for some time. In this report, strong evidence in favor of a proton-transfer mechanism is reported. There is a strong correlation between the quenching rate constant and the aqueous pK(a) of the quencher. Varying the pK(a) of the metal complex by addition of electron-withdrawing and -releasing substituents also leads to a predictable change in the quenching rate constant.
