A TIME-DEPENDENT APPROACH TO CONDUCTANCE IN NARROW CHANNELS

摘要
An application of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation to the numerical evaluation of the conductance of a quantum point contact is described. For this purpose a single electron at zero temperature is represented by a Gaussian wave packet. Results are presented for a simple point contact geometry with a smoothly varying confining potential. The flexibility in choice of the model potential could make the approach suitable for a wider range of similar problems.
