Absolute rate constants for the reaction of O3P) atoms with benzene and toleune have been determined over the temperature range 299-440 K using a flash photolysis-NO2 chemiluminescence technique. The Arrhenius expressions obtained were k2 (benzene) = 1.68 × 10-11 exp[-(3995 ± 200)/RT] cm3 molecule-1 s-1 and k2 (toluene) = 1.64 × 10-11 × exp [-(3050 ± 200)/RT] cm3 molecule-1 s-1, with activation energies in cal mole-1; the room-temperature rate constants are (2.00 ± 0.20) × 10-14 cm3 molecule-1 s-1 and (9.62 ± 0.96) × 10-14 cm3 molecule-1 s-1 for benzene and toluene, respectively. © 1979.
