Fe57 and I129 Mössbauer measurements have been performed on the paramagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases of N(C2H5)Fr4I4 and N(C4H9)Fe4I4. A regular tetrahedral geometry is concluded for the (FeI4)- molecular anions. The orientation of the Fe3+ magnetic moment within the system of molecular axes is deduced for the ordered phase of N(C2H5)Fe4I4; N(C4H9)Fe4I4 presents a more complex magnetic structure. The Fe57 isomer shift and hyperfine field in the series of tetrahedral halide complexes (FeX4)- (X=Cl,Br,I) reveal a monotonous correlation with the ligand electronegativity. © 1979 The American Physical Society.
