EFFECT OF ESTRADIOL AND PROGESTERONE ON PORPHYRIN SYNTHESIS IN LIVER CELL CULTURES

Estradiol and progesterone effected in concentrations about 10-5 M in chick-embryo liver cells growing in culture preponderately an increase of protoporphyrin synthesis. With 5 β-pregnantriol as inducer it was showed that during the first 12 hours of incubation period protoporphyrin arose and in the following hours coproporphyrin also increased. These results are in agreement with the clinical observations about the pathogenetic importance of estradiol and progesterone for the manifestation of hepatic porphyria. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
