OSTEOSARCOMA OCCURRING IN OSTEOGENESIS IMPERFECTA - CASE-REPORT

Hyperplastic callus formation is a well recognized but unusual complication of osteogenesis imperfecta, and the difficulties associated with differentiating between hyperplastic callus formation and osteosarcoma have often been described. Of twenty-one patients with hyperplastic callus formation associated with osteogenesis imperfecta in one series, three had an unnecessary amputation, and six additional patients refused surgical ablation of this benign lesion. Osteosarcoma is extremely rare in association with osteogenesis imperfecta, with only eight cases reported in the world literature. A case report of osteosarcoma occurring in a patient with osteogenesis imperfecta is described.
