摘要
Progesterone synergizes with estradiol benzoate to facilitate the onset of female sexual receptivity in the lizard, Anolis carolinensis. Ovariectomized females primed with a subthreshold injection (0.4 μg) of estrogen become sexually receptive within 30 hr after receiving a single injection of 60 μg of progesterone, while animals receiving steroid suspension vehicle alone remain unreceptive. Studies of the time course of the facilitatory role of progesterone indicate that progesterone begins to exert its effect within 3 hr of its administration. A model for the pattern of ovarian hormone production in this species is presented, and the adaptive significance of the influence of progesterone on female sexual behavior is discussed. © 1979.
