THERMOPOWER HYSTERESIS IN THE CHARGE-DENSITY WAVE STATE OF RB0.3MOO3 AND K0.3MOO3

摘要
The thermopower S of Rb0.3MoO3 and K0.3MoO3 was measured in the range 20-300K. Two types of behaviour are observed in agreement with previous measurements in blue bronzes. In both the Charge Density Wave (CDW) transition is seen at T(c) = 181K as a sharp increase of the slope of dS/dT and the thermopower above T(c) is very small with values of congruent-to 3-mu-VK-1 at room temperature and becomes negative below T(c) where a large hysteresis is observed with a maximum amplitude in the range 80-130K. The observed hysteresis is correlated with the variation of the C.D.W. wave vector that becomes almost commensurate at less-than-or-equal-to 90K. The results are discussed in terms of local fluctuations of the C.D.W. distortion.
