Absorption and luminescence spectra of CdS0.4Se0.6 nanocrystals of 30 nm of average size, embedded in a borosilicate glass, are discussed. The luminescence spectrum shows three bands which are partially polarized under resonant linearly polarized excitation. The observed degree of linear polarization is due to the selective absorption of light by wurzite-type nanocrystals. Assuming that the c-axes of nanocrystals are randomly oriented, the degree of linear polarization is calculated and found equal to 0. 14. The maximum experimental value is very close to this value.
