The monosubstituted metal carbonyl complexes M(CO)(5)P(NMe(2))(2)Cl (M=Cr, W) and W(CO)(5) P(MeN(CH2)(2)NMe)Cl have been prepared from the reaction of haloamidophosphine ligands with M(CO)(5)THF precursor complexes. The resulting compounds were characterized by infrared and multinuclear NMR (P-31, C-13, O-17) spectroscopic methods. Use of C-13 NMR spectral data in conjunction with O-17 NMR chemical shift values for these compounds gives an indication of sigma donor/pi acceptor ability relative to other Group VI monosubstituted phosphine complexes. Attempts to form coordinated phosphenium cation complexes from these compounds by chloride abstraction with AlCl3 yielded the unexpected adducts M(CO)(5)L.AlCl3.
