The synthetic processing of a Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductor by the spray drying and subsequent calcination was examined. The nitrate solution of the superconductor was spray dried and then promptly, the spray-dried powder was decomposed at the temperature in the stable range of the high T(c) phase for relatively short time (1-2 hours). Other homogeneous starting materials could not react to the high T(c) phase in such a short time. The results suggest that the optimum condition at which to synthesize the high T(c) phase is not only homogeneity, but also the condition of the precursor and reaction method.
