DYNAMICAL DESCRIPTION OF DISSIPATIVE HEAVY-ION COLLISIONS IN THE ADIABATIC REPRESENTATION

For the description of dissipative heavy-ion collisions, a statistical theory is formulated in the frame of an adiabatic representation. Under quite general conditions a transport equation is derived, which is valid for all values of the coupling strength. The nonstatistical initial phase of the collision is approximately taken into account. For small velocitites of the collective motion the transport coefficients go smoothly over to the weak coupling results of the linear response theory. In contrast to other strong coupling theories, the present formulation gives the conservation of the mean total energy irrespective of the coupling strength. © 1979 Springer-Verlag.
