SYNTHESIS AND SYNERGISTIC ACTIVITY OF DILLAPIOLE BASED PYRETHRUM SYNERGISTS

Twelve compounds were synthesized by chemical transformation of dillapiole (2, 3-dimethoxy-4, 5-methylenedioxyallylbenzene), one of the chief constituents of Anethum sowa Roxb. (Indian dill) seed oil. All of these compounds exhibit synergism better than piperonyl butoxide toward pyrethrum against flour beetles (Tribolium castaneum Herbst.). Isolation of dillapiole, its conversion to the above compounds, and their infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, RM values, and factors of synergism are reported in this paper. © 1979, American Chemical Society.
