PREDICTION OF LATERAL INSTABILITIES IN FARADAY MAGNETOMETER

摘要
When the Faraday method is used for magnetic measurement, errors are sometimes caused by the specimen holder being attracted towards one of the poles and swinging out of the vertical. An analysis of the reasons for these instabilities shows that they will only occur when the downwards force on the suspension due to magnetic effects exceeds a critical value which is the same for paramagnetic and ferromagnetic specimens and may be substantially independent of electromagnet current.
