NEUTRON INELASTIC-SCATTERING FROM ISOLATED CLUSTERS OF MAGNETIC IONS

摘要
Neutron inelastic scattering from isolated clusters of magnetic ions is reviewed. The great advantage with these systems compared to magnetic crystal lattices is the relative isolation of the magnetic metal clusters, which reduces the theoretical exercise of interpreting experimental data from an insoluble many-body problem to a usually exactly soluble few-body" problem. The eigenvalues of the Heisenberg-Dirac-Van Vleck exchange Hamiltonian and the differential neutron cross-sections are calculated for binuclear and trinuclear clusters. Results obtained for polynuclear clusters of transition metal ions are presented. The advantages of the neutron inelastic scattering technique as well as important applications of the cluster problem are discussed. © 1979."
