STUDY OF 2-STEP TRANSFER CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE INELASTIC-SCATTERING OF C-13 ON O-16 AND O-18

摘要
Using the time-of-flight technique, all strong reaction channels have been studied for the systems 16C + 16O and 13C + 18O at EL = 24 MeV. Angular distributions are obtained for the one-nucleon-transfer channels and the inelastic transitions to 13C(3.06 MeV, 1 2+) and 18O(1.98 MeV, 2+) and analysed in the coupled-reaction-channel (CRC) formalism. It is shown that the inelastic transitions have large contributions from two-step transfer processes in which the transferred nucleon, via intermediate channels, returns to the original nucleus and forms the excited state. In these second-order DWBA calculations the one-step reactions to the intermediate states are described simultaneously. With the inclusion of these processes one extracts a deformation parameter (βR = 1.0 fm) for the direct excitation of 18O2+ which agrees well with the value deduced from electromagnetic transition strength. For the excitation of 13C the two-step process dominates the direct neutron excitation, resulting in a reasonable description of the data. © 1979.
