CERVICAL AND MEDIASTINAL LYMPH NODE METASTASES AS AN OTORHINOLARYNGIC PROBLEM

The problems of localizing the primary tumor in cases of lymph node metastasis in the supraclavicular fossae and in the mediastinum are briefly discussed. The frequencies and numbers of different primary tumors with metastases in these lymph node stations are given in material consisting of 2,518 metastasized carcinomas diagnosed in autopsied subjects during the seven years, 1960 through 1966. The lymph node stations mentioned were studied microscopically in all these cases. It is stressed that the numbers listed, together with the local findings and the histological picture can guide the clinician in his search for the site of the primary tumor. © 1969, SAGE Publications.
