摘要
Simplicity, symmetric design, variable energy range, and support for both sides of the crystals are features of a new fixed-exit crystal monochromator that we have designed, built and tested. It is less complex; therefore it is less expensive to build, easier to understand, and easier to maintain. All high-precision ground surfaces have been replaced with precision shafting; all ball and roller bearings in the system have been replaced with ultrahigh-vacuum-compatible bushings. Exclusive of the crystal holder, the vacuum chamber, and the drive mechanism, the monochromator consists of only six basic parts as compared to over a hundred parts in other designs. The system is highly symmetric, with no preferred orientation for entrance and exit beams. The same parts are used in both the two-crystal and four-crystal versions. Angular ranges for the system (and therefore energy ranges) are easily varied. © 1990.
