Triplet states of six-membered N-heterocycles: Phosphorescence of pyrazine and its two conjugate acids

摘要
The phosphorescence spectra of the pyrazine molecule and of its mono- and diprotonated forms have been measured in aqueous solvents. Emission maxima occur respectively at: 26 700 cm(-1), 21 600 cm(-1) and 24 100 cm(-1). The nature of the excited states involved is discussed, and an explanation of the redshift of phosphorescence under protonation is proposed in terms of acid-base equilibria of pyrazine in its lowest triplet state.
