摘要
Abstract— The photochemistry of polynucleotides is strongly dependent upon the temperature at which the irradiation is done. At 77°K only a limited number of pyrimidines undergo dimerization. Hydration and interstrand cross‐linking is completely prevented at this temperature. Irradiation at low temperatures leads to the formación in DNA of the spore‐type photoproduct. At elevated temperatures destacking of the bases, which occurs upon melting, leads to lower dimer yields. Variation of the irradiation temperature has proven to be of great value in determining the biological effectiveness of photoproducts that differ in their temperature dependence.
