STRUCTURES AND SOLID-STATE REACTIONS OF PRUSSIAN BLUE ANALOGS CONTAINING CHROMIUM MANGANESE IRON AND COBALT

For the series of cubic metal cyanide polymers studied here a knowledge of starting materials, coupled with measurement of cyanide stretching frequencies, X-ray powder patterns, magnetic susceptibilities, optical spectra, and 57Fe Mössbauer spectra, has permitted structural assignments. Two systems appear to undergo solid-state reactions. One of these, Fe3[Mn-(CN)6]2, initially contains Fe-N and Mn-C bonds, which rearrange to give a material containing Fe-C bonds. A second compound of approximate composition Co3[Cr(CN)6]2 appears to undergo isomerization on heating in an inert atmosphere to a product containing Co(II)-C bonds. Air oxidation then leads to a material containing Cr3+-N and Co(III)-C linkages. © 1969, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
