(23)Na and (14)N Knight shifts in concentrated solutions of sodium in ammonia

Accurate measurements of (23)Na and (14)N Knight shifts have been performed in solutions of sodium in ammonia in the concentrated region. Their variation with the concentration is consistent with a model of quasi-free electrons, and their variation with temperature indicates thermal excitation of the electrons from a diamagnetic state into the conduction band, even near saturation.
