The recent total cross section, sigma(tot), and rho-value results from the Fermilab Tevatron Collider experiments,1,2 presented at the 4th "Blois" Workshop on Elastic and Diffractive Scattering, held at Elba in May 1991, provide a natural springboard from which to launch a focused review of the field.
