102-kHz scattering was recorded at depths varying from 130 to 280m in the San Pedro and Santa Catalina basins off southern California. The scattering from these layers was quantified and volume scattering strengths were determined. These acoustic measurements are correlated with the biomass and distribution of euphausiids (primarily Euphausia pacifica), which were collected concurrently. Qualitative and quantitative variations in scattering values are related to the patchiness of the euphausiids. © 1979.
