ON INTERSPECIFIC COMPARISON OF NUCLEAR DNA AMOUNTS USING FEULGEN AND GALLOCYANIN CHROMALUM METHODS

Quantitative determinations of nuclear DNA amounts by both the Feulgen and the Gallocyanin Chromalum methods vary considerably and systematically depending on the interpretation of the measurements. Before such determinations can be interpreted to the limits of accuracy set by the optical methods, the measurements will have to be standardized against determinations obtained by other methods, and the mechanisms underlying the production of stainable groups in the two cytochemical reactions will have to be better understocd. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
