摘要
Maturation dependent generation and persistence of C1-C5 mono- and dicarboxylic acids is investigated by low temperature aqueous leaching of Australian lignitic, subituminous and bituminous coals. Distinct maturation related acid patterns were identified, based primarily on the distribution of the C2-C4 dicarboxylic acid assemblages in the leachates. Identification of these acid patterns in reservoir waters and source rocks may prove useful in resolving the thermal history and timing of aqueous expulsion events in sedimentary basin setting.
