摘要
Free-surface distortions caused by the combined effects of gravity and surface tension have little effect on the measured torque in torsional parallel-plate rheometry, but they can affect the measured normal stresses for dilute polymer solutions. A static free surface correction to the normal force is in good agreement with finite-element calculations and can be used to correct experimental measurements.
