摘要
The growth of the compact lamp, particularly the fluorescent twin tube and quad types, has been exponential in recent years. Market demand exceeds manufacturers' supply, both domestically and globally Engineering techniques have been developed to help evaluate the lamp-ballast compatibility of these new systems in a shorter time frame. One specific technique being used involves the calculation of the ratio of the hot electrode resistance to the cold electrode resistance. Thermal management limitations coupled with different lamp orientation positions, can sometimes cause unexpected changes in overall system performance, particularly as to where the peak of the light output may occur. Ballast topology has been optimized to minimize these thermally related applications. Jacket quad designs will probably further expand the usage of these compact light sources, particularly in outdoor applications. Cold starting reliability and instant, hot restart abilities are also a positive characteristic of these integral, electronic quad systems. © 1993 Illuminating Engineering Society.
