SPONTANEOUS AND INDUCED REVERSION OF ICR-170-INDUCED XANTHINE DEHYDROGENASE MUTANTS OF ASPERGILLUS-NIDU-LANS

ICR-170-induced xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) mutants occuring at 6 independent gene loci in Aspergillus have been examined for their ability to revert spontaneously, and after treatments with ICR-170, diethyl sulphate (DES), and N-methyl-N-nitroso-N′-nitroguanidine (NG). The results are discussed in relation to studies of the revertibility of previously characterised adenine-3B Neurospora mutants by ICR-170, which indicate that ICR-170 produces predomonantly base-pair insertion or deletion mutations in DNA. Little or no evidence is found that ICR-170 induces this type of molecular change in Aspergillus. An analysis of variance on the revertible ICR-170-induced XDH mutants indicates no significant effect on gene locus or reverting mutagen on reversion (by ICR-170, DES and NG). © 1969.
