摘要
Newly synthesized polymer ion-dye complexes, poly-(2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid) (AMPS)-hemicyanines (HC-1,2), are investigated by electroabsorption. The spectral change induced by an external electric field is predominantly broadening, due to an increase in the homogeneous width by the change in the vibronic coupling constant. The imaginary part of the nonlinear susceptibility was determined: chi-i(3)(-omega; omega, 0, 0) = 3.6 x 10(-10) esu at E = eta-omega = 2.05 eV for AMPS-HC-2 with two double bonds between the aromatic rings; and chi-i(3) (-omega; omega) = 2.1 x 10(-10) esu at E = 2.21 eV for AMPS-HC-1 with only one double bond.
