A STUDY OF THE INDUCED MAGNETIC-ANISOTROPY MECHANISM IN ACICULAR COBALT-FERRITE PARTICLES

The influence of Fe2+ ions on the coercivity and induced magnetic anisotropy of acicular cobalt-ferrite particles was studied. When the Co2+ content was constant, the coercivity and induced magnetic anisotropy linearly increased with increasing Fe2+ content of the acicular cobalt-ferrite particles. The activation energy E of these samples was measured and found to be about 0.4 eV. A model of Co2+ and Fe2+ pairs oriented along the magnetic field direction to induce a uniaxial magnetic anisotropy after magnetic annealing is proposed to explain the experimental results.
