摘要
1. A computer operated multichannel respirometer was used to investigate the effect of photoperiod (12L:12D, 18L:6D; 24L:0D; 0L:24D; 6L:18D) on resting metabolism in common carp at 28-degrees-C. 2. Carp weighing 80 g showed two respiratory peaks, at dawn and at dusk, having a mean oxygen consumption of 152 mg/kg/hr. 3. When acclimated to longer or shorter light periods respiration was also cyclic but with a lower mean respiratory rate. Continuous light and darkness suppressed respiratory rhythm with no significant peaking. 4. The differences between maximum and minimum oxygen consumption decreased both when the light period and dark period were extended.
