摘要
An impinger method to determine concentrations of aromatic hydrocarbons in air is described. This used a mixture of methanol and water as a collecting liquid and this was analysed directly by reverse phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The method was applied to identify and quantify the emission of aromatic compounds from drying paints and cold-applied, liquid, damp-proof membranes. The results of a full-scale painting trial found that concentrations of aromatic hydrocarbons in a room during painting operations could exceed UK occupational exposure limits. Headspace tests using desiccators were found to be a useful means of characterising products regarding their propensity to emit aromatic hydrocarbons. This type of test was used to verify that a type of damp-proof membrane was the source of a naphthalene odour in some buildings. © 1990.
